This is one of the "little" bandsaw blades the saw uses.
This worker is resetting the teeth to be re-sharpened after it
hit steel in the wood. This happens quite often and is very costly.
The mill is installing a $280,000.00 metal detector in a few months. |

Blades ready to go. These blades are 41 ft long, 13" wide,
have 242 teeth and weigh over 100 lbs. The new ones crated in the
background cost $860.00. It takes six men to uncrate them. |
This is one of the gang saw blades that is used to trim the boards
after they are sawed off the log. The room it's in is called the
carbide room. that's where the blades get sharpened, new carbide
put on when necessary, straightened, etc. All blades are sharpened
and mantained in house. These blades have to be sharpened after
each shift (9hrs.) The bandsaw blade lasts two shifts if it doesn't
hit anything. The mill runs two shifts per day. |
We got to do plenty of walking, this is one BIG place. |
Two things they have plenty of is lumber and beautiful mountains. |
